Some UPND cadres today impounded two Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- trucks, which had entered into Zambia through the Chirundu border post, from South Africa. The cadres, who suspected the trucks to be carrying marked ballot papers, trailed the two vehicles from Chirundu and later impounded them in Lusaka and took them to Central Police before they were taking them to the ECZ headquarters where the contents were verified. And after verification, the trucks were however found to be carrying lamps, tables and chairs, which will be used at polling stations, during the January 20, 2015 Presidential election.Police Spokesperson, MUNGANGA CHANDA has confirmed the incident to TV 2 news saying the cadres first escorted the trucks to the central police and later to the ECZ offices, where the contents were verified.Ms CHANDA has further explained that while at Central Police, officers verified the contents of the trucks to be lamps tables and chairs, using the consignment manifest. And UPND Deputy Spokesperson, EDWIN LIFWEKELO has told TV 2 news that the party is satisfied with the contents of the truck, adding that the party has every confidence in the Commission. But ECZ Public Relations Manager, CRIS AKUFUNA has warned electoral stakeholders against making wild and baseless statements or accusations.Earlier UPND cardres showed hostility towards a ZNBC TV news crew that had gone to the Central Police to film the trucks they had impounded. The cardres told the ZNBC reporter and cameraman that they were not needed and that they should leave the central police because ZNBC TV does not show UPND news stories.Meanwhile the MMD has warned the UPND that they party could plunge the country in tumor if it continues to issuing irresponsible statements.MMD Media team member, IREEN MUSONDA advised the UPND to be calm down. And Green Party President PETER SINKAMBA has advised Presidential candidates counsel cardres against spreading rumours which can ignite chaos in Zambia. He said UPND carders should not be overexcited and take the law into their own hands.
