Some Unprecedented Manners to Nigerians: Charly Hebdo Attack and Baga Massacre. Recently, you all saw- read- or heard about Chaley Hebdo attack in Paris. That generates or attract alot of attention from the International community and all the media houses across the globe, including our very own NTA and the rest. Ofcourse, France is one of the world powers, that even if theres no human casualty during the attack, its a major slam on their face regarding their inability to foil the attack. Unfortunately to them, 12 lives were claimed. JUST 12! In the process of condemning the terrorists attack believed to be carried out by 2 Yemenin brothers, some World Looters (leaders in their word) march the street of the Eifil Tower city alongside 1.5 million Parissians. As a Nigerian, raised in the troublesome city of Maiduguri and a witness of countless attacks masterminded by the dreaded Boko Haram, it surprise me as how 1.5 million human species will abandon their daily routine just to show solidarity for the deaths and also march against terrorism? As a Nigerian, it surprised me how and why did President Hollande didnt blame neither his political enemies nor some elements trying to make his administration ungovernable as I was wisely thought by my leaders...? Rather, he was reported to have been engaging on series of security meeting with both internal and external forces on how to cub the deteriorating situation. And that resulted to the identification of the cultists. Instantly! Back to my Nigeria. That my President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is not a photocopy of France Hollandes in leadership style and skills is not my problem, rather, I envy such. That my president (GEJ) is surrounded by some of the best brains in writing skills and professors in composing condolence and condemning statement after every SUCCESSFUL attack by Boko Haram is not my problem. That my President never take responsibility in failure even once in all this while of attacks, which resulted to his failure to uplift and protect his vows that our security and lives protection will be his primary responsibility- is not my problem either. My utmost problem is the reaction Nigerians gave. Nigerians are funny and at the same time annoying. In the whole world, theres no a place whereby a citizens will obliged and subject himself to be a tool of the government (not even in Africa). For a major protest to be held and the request of the protesters to be granted- is a never done in the Nigerian society. We witness the #OccupyNigeria protest against the removal of oil subsidy in January 2012. And the #BringBackOurGirls campaign in mid of 2015. The subsidy was NEVER reversed and also the girls were yet to be back. What the protesters get in response from the government is so childish that pronouncing it here will make one of their dull. A case study of Baga, a commercial village in Borno, revealed how the international community and the media houses abandon Nigerians. Its not the first time Baga witnesses such an unfortunate event, neither was the second or third the Northeast in particular witness it. But, it occurrence in same week with that of the shameless cartoon media house in Paris makes the trend. Also, the low or late or never condemnation of Baga killings by some prominent international figures, and their rush to that of Charly Hebdo, makes the vibe. Is the lives of 12 white people worthwhile of that 2,000 in the outskirt of Munguno? Or is it a crime to be born in Africa? Particularly in Nigeria? Is it not shameful that were now seeking the help of international community to fight an untrained and unskilled insurgents? With almost every resources at our disposal to get what we wanted at the time we want to? Indeed, There Was A Country. Abuy Abba Akhuwa jnr. 12th January 2015.
