Some anger appeared on his face, and bluntly said to me, “ Nepali Bhayera Pani Bidesh ma Nepali lai Maddat Garna Hunna? “. His such accusation pinched me but his accusative statement was worthless and had no weight……………. Last week while in the Project Site Offices and after lunch time, I had been standing adjacent to the field work going-on, just observing the surrounding. There were many Nepali workers (various category) working in the project. While seeing me there, one Nepali brother rushed to me and hurriedly telling a problem facing him then. After having a while conversation with him, I understood that he had submitted a request application to the Company to provide him with some money on a loan basis. His application was approved too but for an amount less than what he had requested for. He was not satisfied with that approval, so he wanted my support or assistance to intermediate with the matter. As his problem was related to Finance Department, and not related to our department. Though I am not associated with the Finance Section, I explained to him,” See, brother, there are some certain procedures in our Finance Section, and any application related to financial matter has to go through some certain criteria, and it is reviewed and considered accordingly. Their review and evaluation over your application might have not complied with the set requirements. The approval for less amount loan may be that you applied for the amount far more than the amount which accrued from your salary and other incentives and bonuses. So, they found you eligible to receive only the amount which has been approved now”. And, I also told me,” See, brother, I appreciated your approach and your problem deliberation to me, but, it is my frankness and regret also to say to you that I can’t help you in this problem of yours because I am from Technical/Tendering Department, and your case is with the Finance Department. I have no such authority to interfere and some many constraints in the matters associated with other Departments. You know that the Company Management has set ‘Monday Evening ’ as a day for all the Workers/employees to intimate or report in person all their problems, complaints and requests to the Management. What I can do for you is ‘If you attend on that day and If I am also available there’ then I can mediate and convey in well understanding and convincing way all your problems for the Management’s review and consideration,”. It seemed that he was not so patient to wait for. On listening the procedures, some anger appeared on his face, and bluntly said to me, “ Nepali Bhayera Pani Bidesh ma Nepali lai Maddat Garna Hunna? “. His such accusation pinched me. His accusative statement was worthless and having no weight. It is not that I don’t want to help. I have helped so many people in problem, but the help seeker must understand that the problem facing should be related to and under capability of the help provider. His accusative statement, ““ Nepali Bhayera Pani Bidesh ma Nepali lai Maddat Garna Hunna?” resounded and reminded me of one past event. Ten (10) years before, I had been waiting in Doha International Airport (Qatar) to receive one of my friends. Some newly arrived Nepali were poking at and expressing their dissent at another Nepali (who used to work as a Trolley boy in the Airport). Seeing a small crowd of new Nepali people, I went there to understand what had actually happened. Those new Nepali wanted to call their relatives in Doha to come and receive them, so they were asking that Nepali Guy to let them call from his mobile. That guy (Trolley boy) had agreed for them to use his mobile subject to QR. 2/- (Two Riyals) per minute (note : that time One minute call cost QR. 1.5/- per minute), but they had not been agreeing for his condition, and he too had not been agreeing for let of free calls. I understood the complication, and put a logic, facing to the newly arrived Nepali, “ See, all of you are right. But there is a difference. You people landed today, and will leave the Airport after few hours and will turn up here after a year or two years to go back to Nepal, but this gentleman whose work is at this Airport remains for a whole year and everyday he sees all incoming Nepali. He works here to earn money, and If he started letting all new Nepali to make free calls from his mobile as you people are asking for, forget his salary, he has to tell his family in Nepal to send him money to help the new Nepali in Airport. Just imagine, everyday there is (in average) an inflow of 200 or 300 Nepali to Qatar. All have their own problems. How can this poor lad (a trolley boy) extend help to all those, or say letting them make free calls from his mobile? He is working here, leaving his family in Nepal, just to earn not to lose,”. All agreed to my ROUGH logic and dispersed. The trolley boy also become busy in his work. Krishna Subedi, Doha
