Some argue that big businesses own the government. But do they own - TopicsExpress

Some argue that big businesses own the government. But do they own the courts as well? The SCOTUS, half of it perhaps. Federal courts, again some of it. But what of our state courts? There is some reason that the Chamber of Commerce has spent years and a lot of money attacking, vilifying, denigrating and slandering the Third Circuit Court of Madison County Illinois. Why is that? Are our courts crookedly disposed against big businesses as the Chamber says? Or are they one of the remaining pockets of judicial egalitarianism in a nation too much ruled by big money? The Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of businesses and nothing else. They are not a public service organization. They pretend no obligation to be fair or impartial. Their job is to save their member businesses money on lawsuits for having hurt and killed people. The Chamber works as well against taxation of businesses, environmental regulations, workplace safety, and financial accountability of businesses for existing pension obligations. The Chamber lobbies against minimum wages, unions and all things benefitting labor and consumers. The Chamber advocates for businesses no matter the harm they do, the mistakes they make and it advocates for businesses escaping liability for criminality and tortious behavior across the spectrum. Since the Chamber of Commerce does not do one single thing for the sake of anyone but businesses, and since much of their intent is to aid by any and all means businesses at the expense of the public, should we believe then that they are really after a better court system in little old Madison County? We need to clearly understand something. The inherent one-sided advocacy of the Chamber of Commerce is so apparent to all that in order to promulgate their better courts charade meant to keep our courts from working, they have had to set up phony grassroots organizations in order to give some misleading semblance of democracy to their efforts to deprecate the legal rights of people who sue businesses for having hurt or cheated them. The Chamber owns the Madison County Record newspaper. The Civil Justice League, ILAW or whatever front name the Chamber is using now, those concocted outfits are funded, and directed, by the Chamber. Those operators are professional demagogues; they are not activists. The Chamber of Commerce has fired its billion dollar propaganda cannons at little, nearly defenseless Madison County not just to curtail the ability of ordinary people to have their lawsuits heard by our court, but also to put fear into local courts elsewhere. If you dare let anyone sue us we will do to you what we did to Madison County. We are the example to be made. Too bad for them that our judges have not crumbled, that our people do not tremble before the might of big money, that we as a people have defended our courts at the ballot box. So long as we have the right to think freely and to vote our minds, the Chamber of Commerce will fail in its fascist agenda in Madison County, a great place to live and work. And we should be proud that our home county is a place where an ordinary citizen can get a fair day in court.
