Some beer bars pour crazy selections – 100 plus beers – but we believe less is more, especially when it comes to tangled plumbing. We’ve eight taps here at Book & Bar and rotate our selections constantly. We’re always willing to try something new, especially something local, and welcome suggestions. IPA: Firestone Union Jack (7.5%): Possibly the most balanced IPA we’ve tasted. Upcoming: Smutty’s Finest Kind. Pale Ale: Smuttynose Shoals: A complex ale featuring a hoppy bite and long malt finish. Brewed outside town by our neighbors. Upcoming: Blue Lobster Straw Point Pale – another neighbor. Pilsner: Love me Long Time, (4.8%): From Throwback Brewery. A crisp, bright pint from friends down the road. Cider: Downeast Original Blend (5.1%): Unfiltered and actually tastes like cider. Most hard ciders, like Woodchuck, taste like they came from a juice box - not this stuff. Upcoming: Farnum Hill Cider - super dry, very elegant. Cream Ale: Six Point Sweet Action (5.2%). A staff favorite – people get mad at me when this isn’t on tap. “Big Beer”: Founders Backwoods Bastard (10.2%): A heavy duty Scotch ale with a rabid fan base. Upcoming: Time for something from Lagunitas… Saison/Farmhouse: Ommegang Hennepin Farmhouse (7.7%) Makes me want to move to France or maybe Cooperstown. Upcoming: La Merle from North Coast Porter/Stout: Guinness. Of course. (4.2%) Upcoming: Old Rasputin Russian Imperial. I’d bet the royal household on this one.
