Some candid thoughts regarding the new course for the 2014 - TopicsExpress

Some candid thoughts regarding the new course for the 2014 installment of the SoCal Ragnar Run to our beloved Ragnar Organizers: First of all, I am very happy to see that the updated 2014 course had been moved to along the coast. This is probably a much more scenic route and is much safer for all the runners, eliminating that extremely hot inland mileage that can pose as a health threat to many of the runners, who in all likelihood, have never run or trained in such extreme weather conditions AND could be prone to serious dehydration and other related health risks associated with running in very hot weather conditions. So THANK YOU for the move westward towards the coast AND for taking into consideration the health and safety of the runners! I do, however, have a request. One of the BAD ASS qualities of Ragnar is that the course is typically 200 miles long. This years course is ONLY 192 miles in length. In talking to my fellow Ragnarian mates, we feel a bit short changed, as in 8 miles short... If I might draw an analogy, this equates to making a marathon 26 miles long and cutting out that two tenths of a mile. First of all, that would NEVER be done! And second, it would take away from the mystic and rich tradition that is the marathon. Ragnar is no different. It is a 200 mile relay race, NOT 192 miles... We are missing our two tenths of a mile here! Perhaps something can be done to lengthen the course by 8 miles. The starting line could be moved up the coast a bit, or a slight inland detour might be found with those ever so fun Ragnar hills that never seem to end. I know this poses a challenge logistically, but 200 miles is the Ragnar Way! Its part of the BAD ASS INSANITY & FUN FACTOR that makes the race SOOO F IN GREAT! Lets balance those shorter running legs and please, pretty please with sugar on top, find us another 8 miles. It would mean a WHOLE HELL OF A LOT to the zany Ragnarian community that has grown to love this event! Thank you for your time and consideration folks!
