Some candidates seem to have found a magic formula to Zambia’s problems.. 1. Free Education 2. Free Health Services 3. Free Fertiliser and Seeds for Small Scale farmers. 4. And they will increase the minimum wage. From the current (supposedly foolish level of the PF) 5. While at it, they will also build roads and other infrastructure, without borrowing. 6. They will re-introduce the windfall tax. 7. They will also create jobs. 8. While at it they will reduce the price of goods and services, and improve the ROE. 9. They will increase the floor price for the maize , increase FISP. 10. And re-introduce subsidies on fuel and maize. 11. Hold a referendum to enact a new constitution(which requires a census, and of course more money) All this they will do before 2016. My main question is!!! where will they get the money to do all this? How are they going to reduce the price of mealie meal on one hand and increase the floor price of maize on the other? How are they going to build infrastructure without borrowing? increasing taxes or milking the mines dry It appears Santa is coming early next year. Someone please help me!!!! Economists, please help a layman like Mwansa. These circles seem too hard to square for laymen like me.
