Some comic relief to balance some recent bad news: On the evening - TopicsExpress

Some comic relief to balance some recent bad news: On the evening of July 26, 1952, I was alone at home in a big city of Lower Egypt listening to the radio when Galal Muawad announced the abdication of King Farouk I. I was stunned and ran down in sound and fury to the garden to tell the family who were sitting there with some guests. I was so agitated shouting loudly the news to the extent that a poor lamb that was tied to a tree in the corner (seems that the Feast of Sacrifice was near), out of terror, broke forcibly from the rope and raced as far as it could on the near highway! Everybody did not heed the news and were running after the lamb in big fuss till it was finally caught. So, the weight of this historical event was mitigated by that scene of the escaping lamb. (BTW, the lambs price at that time was about 3 L.E. How much is it now?).
