Some dog flea products contain a concentrated form of a drug - TopicsExpress

Some dog flea products contain a concentrated form of a drug called permethrin which is highly toxic to cats. Exposure to even tiny quantities of the concentrated form of permethrin can, sadly, have fatal consequences in cats. These products are freely available over the counter and instead of using a cat-specific product, cat owners are mistakenly using flea treatments designed for dogs. While there are warnings on packs, accidents continue to happen, causing suffering and death to cats. The charity International Cat Care has started a petition to campaign for a change in the licensing of products that contain this drug. The petition asks that these products legally require verbal advice at point of sale from a suitably qualified professional. Under their existing licence, products containing permethrin can be bought directly off the supermarket or shop shelf with no advice. Please sign up to the ‘Protect against permethrin poisoning’ campaign at icatcare.org/permethrin/petition and ask your friends to sign up as well.
