Some fb friend has reported that cricket star Sachin is passing through a process of apotheosis. According to the report, temples would be built in different cities of India, and there the deity would be Sachin. From belief in God man can travel to many destinations. This is one of those. In the field, during a match, we have found Sachin to look up into the sky after creating a record or passing a landmark in his sport. He would look up towards the seat of God which is believed to be in the heaven which popular belief suggests to be in the sky. From this, we can believe that Sachin believed that he was a favourite of God and he achieved because of the blessings of God. Thats why he looked up towards the sky after every success in the field. This is a primitive belief. We find it in Homers Iliad and Odyssey. When the heroes fight below, the gods and goddesses take up positions in the sky and support their respective votaries. Any exceptional performance is attributed to the supporting god or goddess, not the hero himself. Mans success is handed over the gods. This may look foolish. But that is not true. This had advantages also. Failures also could be attributed to gods and the rulers could escape the popular wrath that way, shifting the responsibility of their follies upon gods. Failures must have been more common than success. Thats why the adage: failures are the pillars of success. That means, for every success there were myriad failures. But this had another side: man was not aware of his capabilities. He could not believe that he on his own could do or achieve so much and so perfectly. In the epic, many gods and goddesses were created by Homer. Hesiod also created gods. The phenomenon of Sachin suggests that we have not come out of the age of apotheosis. New gods are found to have still some hopes in India. In Bangladesh, the old gods are finding difficult to stay or survive the attack of the enthusiasts of another faith. Are they looking to migrate? This is the positives and negatives of India and Bangladesh. India proves through this that there is freedom of faith in India. Bangladesh, on the other hand, has proved the opposite.
