Some flag burning happened in Shaw last night. Im a bit surprised...but not surprised. It shows that the American flag means different things to different people. If socially and economically, you have been fortunate; that flag is probably a source of pride. If you have chosen a path of nationalist pride, out of a need to fill a hole in your life, despite never being included in economic or social upward mobility... That flag might still be a source of pride. If you havent lived in poverty, been denied justice, been the victim of institutionalized racism, had a friend killed by the police without any investigation, had your school lose accreditation, been moved out from one neighborhood on the rise to another, or been denied jobs (or access to) based on ethnicity... That flag sucks. Something to consider.
