Some folks wonder why I am so hard in my speech on Facebook. Ill tell you why. I read so much bad theological thinking, so much crap being said in the name of Jesus, so much garbage being preached as though it was gospel truth. Yes, sometimes I even criticize people you like and admire. Well, you may not know it but some of the people whom some of you like and admire actually have the same theology as the guy in this essay. If this essay is representative of anything, it is representative of what happens when you combine the two things Jesus separated: God and vengeance. So if the people you admire have a god who inflicts punishment on Jesus while he suffers crucifixion (penal substitution) or will torture people forever in some eternal prison (Hell) or who justifies violence, genocide, war, rape and murder, then ask yourself if you should really be listening to these kinds of people. They may have all the smiley faces, and lovey-dovey Hallmark God-is-gonna-make-everything-better and God-is-going-to-make-you-rich memes, but if they have even a tad of sacred violence in their theology you can be sure the whole thing is infected.
