Some fool came here and posted a message asking if I didnt feel guilty for my outside cats killing all those birds. First of all, I dont have outside cats. There are cats that were born outside that Im helping. 6 of them have been socialized and brought inside. 90% of the outside cats are only active when it gets dark. Im sitting here listening to the extraordinary birdsong outside my window...I love birds. I feed and water them, and have spent hours listening to bird songs online to try to identify a new one Ive never heard. I have had 3 birds end up on my enclosed porch where some of the cats stay, coming in through the partially opened sliding door...the cats fled from them, terrified. I helped the birds escape, then put up a barrier with only space for the cats to get in. No more birds. I found 1 dead frog, about 20 live frogs, 2 dead mice and 1 live snake on my porch so far...lots of dead bugs. I witnessed 1 cat playing with a baby squirrel that must have fallen to the ground, and one cat caught a bird...both were saved, cats were scolded, and I havent seen them go after either since then (no more snakes, either, since I hollered about that one, too). If anyone thinks they dont listen to me when I scold, youd be wrong. They listen when I scold about where they go to the bathroom, and Mama cat whacked Cloudy in the head once when I yelled at him for putting his claws in me. No more claws. Toys help, especially strings with stuff tied to the end hung on things that they can bop around and balls they can swat and chase. Do cats outside hunt and eat things? Yes, they do. We hunt and eat things, too. Do they kill for fun? Yeah sometimes...so do we. Do they understand that this isnt a cool thing to do? Nope...theyre cats. Do we understand? Yes, we sure do, but do it anyway. Do cats kill creatures because they are offended by them? No way. Do we? That would be a yes. Now tell me again that cats are terrible creatures that need to be decimated, and Ill basically tell you to go to hell for being a hypocrite. You can choose to be at war with cats (which is rather ridiculous if you ask me), or you can do what I do...spay and neuter them so there is no growing population, feed them so they dont need to hunt, work with them on socialization to get the ones inside that you can, and give them stimulating toys so they dont have to go looking for fun. Stop trying to end TNR...every cat spayed and neutered means less cats in the environment. None of us (NONE!!) will volunteer to help you trap and kill. Stop this war on cats because you are promoting abuse and cruelty to living, loving beings; not euthanasia! Horrible crimes against cats are escalating, and I blame the propaganda being spread by the bird conservation people. There are MANY targets you can go after to help the birds you love...killing and torture should not be part of that equation. You have the nerve to call yourselves animal activists...POPPYCOCK! I hate you people as much as I hate trophy hunters!! Maybe youre happy being on the same level as those despicable people...or have you never even thought about that? You are KILLERS and promote evil deeds against life. I will never help you. The lives of the creatures YOU love are not more important than the lives of the creatures I love (which includes birds...well, the creatures I love pretty much include everything except destructive or disease carrying insects). Bird people - routinely call for the death of animals. Cat people - routinely save any creature in need that crosses our path Who are the bad guys again? Ill give you a hint...its not the cat people!
