Some fossils of our hominid ancestors have been found with marks consistent with leopard bites. Life on the savannahs was perilous and any advantage, no matter how small, could mean the difference between finding a meal or becoming one. One strong hypothesis about the evolution of bipedalism suggests that standing tall gave our ancestors a better chance to spot the hidden dangers before it was too late.
