Some great news from our local MP Mr Brad Battin. Work is due to start early next year. $5 MILLION UPGRADE FOR HEALESVILLE-KOOWEERUP ROAD Written on the 24 October 2013 Healesville-Kooweerup Road will receive a major safety boost with the announcement of two multi-million dollar projects to reduce run-off road crashes. Member for Gembrook Brad Battin said the Victorian Coalition Government would invest $5.167 million to complete two safety upgrades between Pakenham and Cockatoo as part of its $1 billion Safer Road Infrastructure Program. “Over the last few years I have spoken to many constituents concerned about parts of Healesville-Kooweerup Road and I am pleased these concerns will be addressed,” Mr Battin said. “Through the Road Safety Strategy 2013-2022, the Victorian Coalition Government is making an unprecedented investment in our roads to address the neglect of the previous Labor government and bring our roads to standard. “In the five year period to 31 December 2012, there were 13 run-off-road crashes on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road between Belgrave-Gembrook Road and Mount Burnett Road in Cockatoo, five resulting in serious injury and two resulting in fatality,” Mr Battin said. “Down the road between Mount Shamrock Road and north of Crosby Road in Pakenham in the same time period, there were 11 run-off-road crashes, eight of which resulted in serious injury. “To address this serious run-off-road crash history along these lengths of Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road, two projects will be carried out.” Mr Battin said $3.38 million has been allocated for the length between Belgrave-Gembrook Road and Mount Burnett Road, and a further $1.787 million for the section from Mount Shamrock Road to north of Crosby Road. “The improvements will reduce the likelihood of run-off-road crashes by sealing the road shoulders and carrying out drainage works as well as new line-marking,” Mr Battin said. “New guard fences and wire rope safety barriers will be installed to reduce the severity of impact if a crash does occur, as well as removing roadside hazards.
