Some great reasons why having a Doula to work with for the birth of your baby helps them and you. Having had babys 2 & 3 with the support of a Doula I totally agree with this article. Unfotunately the birth of our eldest was not the best and looking back I totally put that down to a lack of knowledge even though we did NCT and other classes - you need to understand when to say this is how I want it to go - at no risk to baby - but not to fullfill the timeline of the hospital but that is down to confidence and I doubt may first time parents have it! we did not :(. Talking through the first birth experience with a doula helped me overcome the thoughts from the first birth and I had great training from her to help me move on. Move on to baby number two 9 years later (thats how long it took me!) - such a wonderful time and some knowledge and hypnobrthing techniques made it an amazing experience for me and my husband for babies 2 & 3 (have to say a good few years later than our eldest but if I had know about hypnobirthing and Doula support it would not have been as they helped me overcome all my fears - amazing!). So how can I persuade you to consider Hypnobirthing and maybe even an doula? well my friends could not believe how calm I was re baby number two as soon as I booked a Doula! they thought I was a different person! I would never have considered it but it was the thing that meant we have our gorgeous little girl in our lives! She is 6 now and rules the house! One of my aims in life is that all mums to be (and dads!) have hypnobirthing in their lives and the option of a doula - it will totally transform their lives and be so wonderful for all - It can be in hospital or at home - the main thing is that the mum to be is comfortable and feels safe that is the whole hypnobirthing concept.
