Some have argued that we should allow some of the illegal immigrants from Central America to stay here on humanitarian grounds. Many of us have rejected that argument. Weve pointed out that once you start that, theres no ending it. Case in point: if Ebola sweeps through Central America - this generals prediction is that well see mass illegal immigration to the US. Despite tragic circumstances, the fact remains: borders mean something. Weve chosen our way of life, our method of government, our economic values. And countries in Central America have chosen (by and large) to tolerate petty dictators, to embrace socialism, and to tolerate economic corruption. These choices have consequences. While allowing some (or many) illegal immigrants to stay in the US on humanitarian grounds may sound merciful, its not merciful to allow illegal immigration to destroy what lawful citizens built.
