Some have asked if Im going to see the Noah movie, especially - TopicsExpress

Some have asked if Im going to see the Noah movie, especially after my thoughts last Sunday regarding it and the spectacular movie: Gods Not Dead. Like many other Christians, Ive read many reviews, both pro and con. I know there are deep theological mistakes and anti-biblical themes. However, I was intrigued when a movie critic wrote that the movie caused him to find his Bible and read the biblical account for himself afterward. Nevertheless I know there are many good arguments to avoid the film, but there are perhaps good reasons to see it too. But most importantly, keep in mind that the directors objective was not to produce a Christian based movie for the church to use as an outreach tool (like Gods Not Dead). The director and producer combined a biblical account and a novel to create an artistic/Hollywood style movie, not based on what weve read in a childrens bible. Consider this take: what if you choose to watch the movie and allow it to be a subject of conversation with neighbor or friends who may not understand the cause, purpose and result of the biblical flood? Instead of protesting the movie, take it for face value and use it to cause a friendly/neighborly discussion. But you should be familiar with what you are talking about, not just repeating someone elses thoughts third hand. In fact, some preachers/teachers could choose to use the movie to finally spend time teaching in the Old Testament. A year ago, I started preaching in Genesis and have followed the amazing story of Israel and Gods desire to have a relationship with them. We are just wrapping up 1 Samuel. This post sets a record for me, being the longest post ever. But I dont want believers not to consider how we can use this movie to spark fresh, honest conversation opportunities. So will I go see Noah? Yes, I probably will, but with a motive to understand the issues first hand (as opposed to re-posting someone elses objections...which yes, may have validity) and be able to discuss it with others based FIRST on the Word of God, and secondly on seeing/experiencing what I liked and didnt like about the movie, Noah. Just thoughts for consideration, no condemnation.
