Some have inquired as to the latest with my cochlear implant. Its been seven months since the activation. There is no question that I have made substantial progress since then and many of you know that I have heard environmental sounds that I had not heard previously. Great experiences. As always, speech recognition is goal numero uno and Im making steady progress there. I continue to slog away at the speech recognition therapy. Im mixing things up so as to not get bored. Quite a few people have remarked that my speech has improved since I got the cochlear implant. I find that hard to believe but there must be something to this. :-) Currently, I find that the biggest issue is background noise in environments like restaurants. This is more likely a brain adjustment issue in learning to filter out irrelevant noise. So conversations in noisy environment can still be challenging. At my last appointment, my audiologist did say, with my particular history, that the adjustment period may take 2 to 3 years. Thats okay with me. :-)
