Some inboxed me saying ನಿಂಗ್ಯಾಕೆ ಇವೆಲ್ಲ? ನಿಂಗೇನಾದ್ರೂ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಆದಾಗ ಯಾರಾದ್ರೂ ಬರ್ತಾರಾ? ತಿರುಗಿ ಕೂಡ ನೋಡಲ್ಲ! ಈ ಕಾಳಜಿಯ ಕಿವಿಮಾತು ಬಹುತೇಕ ನಿಜವೂ ಹೌದು. ಬಟ್ ಧರ್ಮದ ಹೆಸರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಕೆಲಸಗಳಾಗೋದನ್ನ, ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಕ್ಕಳು exploit ಆಗೋದನ್ನ ಕೇಳಿ ಸುಮ್ಮನಿರೋದು ಹೇಗೆ? ಯಾರು ಸರಿಯೋ ಯಾರು ತಪ್ಪೋ... ವಿಚಾರಣೆ ಪಾರದರ್ಶಕವಾಗೇ ನಡೆಯಲಿ... ಪ್ರೇಮಲತಾ ಅವರ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಯೊಬ್ಬರ ಪ್ರಕರಣ ಮತ್ತು ನಂತರದ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗಳ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಒಂದು ವಿನಂತಿ ಕಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಓದಿ ನೋಡಿ. Respected Sir/Madam, 1. Premalata Diwakara, w/o Diwakara Shastry , resident of No. 42, Raaga 26th Cross, 10th Main, Banashankari II stage, Bengaluru – 560070 has been the main singer in the Ramakatha programme conducted by Raghaveshwara Swamy, the pontiff of Shri Ramachandra Math, Hosanagar Taluk, Shimoga district in Karnataka State. The Swamy has been conducting this programme in many parts of the country, and wherever this programme is held, Premalata used to go there along with her troupe of artistes and used to be the main singer. 2. During the course of time the Swamy started calling her to his personal room on the pretext of discussing about Ramakatha. He also started giving her a special prasadam which she ate only to go to the state of being mesmerised and to lose her awareness. Using this situation the Swamy raped her. After she regained her full consciousness the Swamy threatened her with dire consequences if at all she disclosed his crime to anybody including her husband. He forcibly made her to swear by Shri Lord Rama as to not to open her mouth with regard to what has transpired between him and her. He further warned her that she would be attracting Gurus curse (Gurushapa). 3. Not once or twice the Swamy raped her. He continuously did it several times using different techniques. The last such incident took place on June 26-27, 2014. Whenever Premalata tried to come out of his clutches, she had to face sever threats by the Swamy. But the physical and mental torture meted out to her by the Swamy became unbearable, she finally disclosed the whole matter to her husband Diwakara Shastry. 4. Premalata and Diwakara considered the Swamy as an incarnation of God hitherto. But when the very same person, who they had thought to be a Gods incarnation, turned out to be a rapist, they received so much shock that had to undergo treatment at the National Institute of Mental Health and Nuero Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru to come out of the trauma. 5. After recovering from the trauma the couple approached elders in the Math establishment and explained them the entire story of rape. In turn the elders discussed this matter with the Swamy. At this sequence, the Swamy announced his decision to go to Ekantam (solitary penance). But he neither did this nor showed any indication of doing this even after lapse of several days. The couple realised that the Swamys announcement was not honest but was only a strategy to buy time. 6. Dissolutioned by the fact that nothing is going to happen, the couple finally decided to lodge a complaint with the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, charging the Swamy of committing continuous rape on Premalata. However the Swamy came to know of this development, hurriedly filed many false cases of extortion and threat on the couple and their family members in different police stations across the state and got the couple arrested by the Honnavar police in Uttara Kannada district. This move of the Swamy was aimed at preventing the couple from filing a rape case against him. 7. The Swamy has high profile connections. The following shocking events that have taken place speak themselves what is what. A) Refusal to record a statement of Premalata under Section 164 of CrPC, when she was produced in the Honnavar court even though she said in the open court that she was raped. B) Allowing a private lawyer to speak and argue on behalf of the Math despite the fact that he has no locus-standi. C) Passing an order of injunction directing the members of the Shastry family not to make any statement against the Swamy, though the residences of both the complainant and the defendants do not fall under the jurisdiction of Honnavar court. D) The two written complaints of rape given to the court by Premalata on two consecutive days have not been acted upon and have not been referred to the police for registering of FIR till date. E) The rape victim, Premalata, is behind bar and has been denied bail though there is no specific charges against her in the whole FIR. 8. Now the latest development is the sad death of Shamaprasada Shastry, younger brother of Diwakara Shastry, in a suspicious manner. This tragedy took place yesterday noon following threatening calls from the followers of the Swamy since two days. 9. Premalata and Diwakara Shastry have been remanded to judicial custody till September 10 and therefore they are unable to approach your good self and explain their story of harassment and torture. Their daughter Anshumati Shastry had lodged a complaint at Banashankari police station in Bengaluru city about her mother being raped by the Swamy. Instead of registering the case invoking Section 376 (rape case), the police registered it under Section 354 A and 506, thereby totally diluting the grave nature of the case. 10. The entire episode consisting of series of tragic events seems so meticulously designed and executed that the ultimate aim is to shut up the mouth of the rape victim and hush up the truth once for all. But what has been transpiring all these days has shaken not only the members of Shastry family and the rape victim but also put all those who are near and dear ones of that family in a condition of shivering fear and helplessness.
