Some interesting facts about data... Throughout recorded human history we generated approximately 5 exabytes (5,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes) of data until 2002. Now we produce this amount on an almost daily basis. 90% of the world’s (digital) data was captured in the last two years. (Source IBM 2012) The size of the world’s data store is likely to grow 40-50 times by 2020. That 80-90% of traffic on the Internet by 2018 is predicted to be video. (Source: Cisco 2011) That an A380 aeroplane produces more data on each transatlantic flight than the digital archive in the Library of Congress. Few companies/universities are able to process the entire Twitter feed (400 million messages per day) and hence the most common service used to take a feed from Twitter offers only 10% of the actual volume.
