Some interesting history just found out: Beautiful little church on the southwest corner of Quail and Spring Streets, the home of Morning Star Missionary Baptist for ninety-five years. The building was erected in 1908 for the Church of the Atonement, organized primarily of members of St. Andrew’s Episcopal who described themselves as “’old-fashioned Episcopalians’ who object to ‘the steady encroachment of ritualism and sacerdotal teaching that have usurped the sound scriptural doctrines and pure worship of the English reformers and Bishop White, the founder of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States’”. The congregation was formed in 1905 and associated with the Reformed Episcopal Church. The Church of the Atonement seems to have failed about 1919, and sold the building to Morning Star Missionary Baptist in 1920.
