Some lovely feedback from Melissa Newton-Turner, the Curriculum Leader of The Arts at Southern Cross Catholic College. Homunculus Theatre’s performance of ‘Café Floriani’ was highly entertaining and consistently engaged my year 10 students. It clearly and creatively demonstrated the conventions of style and elements of drama associated with Commedia dell’Arte. Students were incorporated into the performance providing them with an invaluable experience of working on stage alongside professional actors. My students’ work will undoubtedly be highly influenced and informed by this performance as they prepared for their Forming task. The workshop conducted by company member, Ben Cornfoot extended my students knowledge of Commedia in a supportive and encouraging way. It was fantastic to see students stepping beyond their perceived capabilities and they produced work that was sophisticated and comical.
