Some low-life tried to advertise FIVE week old Bischon puppies on our yardsale site and I was sleeping (working nights) but another admin deleted it. Five weeks old! Really?? I know puppies will begin eating wet food and not needing their mother as much but they are still supposed to stay with the litter, thats why there are laws about it!! Grrr "Whether puppies are orphaned or with their mothers, weaning can generally begin between three and four weeks of age, and is ideally completed by about seven to eight weeks of age. Although it’s often unavoidable, especially in the case of orphaned dogs, it’s preferable to allow weaning to be a gradual process that occurs over several weeks. Puppies need time to learn important behaviors from their mother and littermates, including how to interpret signs of dominance, inhibit their own biting habits and submit to more dominant dogs. It is also preferable for the mother dog to slowly dry up her milk supply. Weaning can definitely be a stressful time for puppies and mother dogs and, whenever possible, should be a gradual and supervised process." -ASPCA website Pedigree Breeders "Never before 8 weeks...the period between 6 and 8 weeks is crucial in their early development and they should spend this time with their mother and littermates." "The third critical period ends during the 7th week and the puppy is now considered emotionally developed and ready to learn." Best part is when you find out someone you work with, who hears you harp on rescue all the time and about backyard breeders all the time went and supported this horrible person who took the puppies away at 5 weeks to try and make $300 each. Reporting the seller and hoping they get fined but who knows if there will even be any left since they are on Craigslist. Im sooo livid.
