Some may know and some may not....I have been working at a local - TopicsExpress

Some may know and some may not....I have been working at a local Best Buy heading their digital imaging department and encounter LOTS of interesting people while on the job...some who I am able to help out and educate a bunch and really appreciate it...and some who teach me a few things along the way as well too. The best is the encounters in the memory card area having people SO perplexed on what to buy looking at the tons of different options. There are SD cards, micro SD cards, CF(compact flash) cards, bigger capacity cards, slower cards and faster cards...cards for $9 and cards for $200. They come in asking for memory chips, Scan Disks(the company is San Disk), memory sticks, chips, sticks, you name it its been said and they have been called it. I find it fun though that people stand and stare at this wall in total confusion and after I give them a break down they walk away feeling a bit relieved. Some still doubt what I say as if I have no clue, but all good...they will realize its not SO complex after all. The same goes with the Go Pros and the different models. Explaining the differences in resolution and what that ALL means and showing them edited videos of examples I shot makes them completely feel more confident buying which is my role I guess. Camera with wifi...they say I want a camera with wifi!!!! I say do you even know what that allows you to do? They reply nope and then I show them how to connect with my iPhone and transfer files and shoot with my phone remotely and they are blown away. I have people now who will wait for me for an hour just to talk and will call asking for my hours with when I work and that will only talk to me....I guess thats pretty cool and flattering they feel good about what I am doing and appreciate my energy with them. With the Go Pro hype for example I can see first hand working in retail how many brand new people are getting them for the very first time having no idea really what they are about or how to really even use them. They are just wanting to be a hero like their tagline and join in on ALL the hype...which there is nothing wrong with that of course. Just today a guy came in saying he bought one about six months ago and still hasnt used his yet because he doesnt know what to shoot with it. I told him to strap it to some body part and let it rip! lol People respect me because I respect everyone that talks to me and I treat each with kindness and patience and not as a customer but as a person. My GM told me I am too nice. :) There is a market to educate these people I know and I am going to offer classes ideally sooner than later on the side that should go well if I can get the word out there in the correct way. The majority of my customers and complete consumers and beginners and really no very little about photography so having someone who is actually a photographer and knowledgeable guiding them I know they are super appreciative of and they let me know always with their kind words. It is really nice giving back even at this level and hope one day to teach and share with the masses somehow. Its important to share and give back. Just thought I would share a bit about this stepping stone part of my current journey. Aloha
