Some more comment on "the Lady with the Two Gloves"... For my Engslish reading relatives (so also for Rania) and FB friends: on this intrigueing FRANS HALS (1582-1666) oil painting of the said Lady, who to me has the ultimate "Dutchness" of the midst of those Golden Age days, around 1650: human, subtle and sober, yet, fortunately, not breathing that severe calvinism of her time. Hals is here masterly with the treatment of her black dress, fine purple and gold colouring.. and the red on her cheeks.. Superbly treated and typically executed as only Hals can do this ! For us to enjoy for ever. The picture (I think the Top Piece in the present Frans Hals Museum exhibition, to end this month, in Haarlem) is owned by a New Yorker. Fortunately "she" will remain in Haarlem for quite a while. So I can meet her often.
