Some observations. I will attempt to post this not as a political rant but as merely some observations of what we have all seen in the past 13 years from this date. This is my perspective. The day after September 11, 2001 we saw a nation of people come together like never before in our generation (boomers). Race, social status and political beliefs didnt matter anymore. Patriotism was abound and people put their differences aside and joined together with a determination not to let something like the events of that day take place on our soil ever again. Flags were flown, people showed great respect for our service members who came home, tired but healthy and an even greater respect for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Flag lined streets for homecomings and funerals alike. Patriots! Slowly, though careful media and political manipulation, the shine has worn off our patriotism. The flag rarely flies. We have allowed ourselves to become divided by race, social status and political beliefs. Our country is at war with ourselves and with the terrorists who seek to do us harm. They see the weakness and they are using it to bring us to our knees. Our elected officials (both side of the isle) are selling us out and have created an environment to which there is so much mistrust and hate that we cannot seem to overcome it. Sad to say, but perhaps we need another wake up call. I truly hope it doesnt happen, but it will. (Boston Strong?) Our elected leaders care more about remaining in office than they do about little Billys education or whether little Debbie has enough to eat. We, as a people, (White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, etc.) have allowed this transformation to take place as we do not hold those elected to hold the course of what we, the people want. Since the War on Terror began, we have 57,614 service members dead or wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq. How many more is a story yet to unfold. Can we afford to let our government and media continue to sell us down the path we are on? I dont think so. Lets make a pact, lets bring our country and patriotism back and put it in style again. Lets be a proud nation and do what is right. Just some observations from an old crusty surveyor... Peace.. cited link.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_military_casualties_of_war
