Some observations on a very cold November morning in Hockley TX - TopicsExpress

Some observations on a very cold November morning in Hockley TX (27 deg F)... 1) The storm now in the eastern Pacific Ocean represents a threat for a severe weather event in parts of TX....OK....LA....AR this weekend. More to the point, it will set up a widespread heavy rain scenario, followed by a draw of much colder air from western and central Canada into the U.S. 2) Note the equatorial linkage on the MTSAT image, from Sumatra and Java into a developing storm complex near the Aleutian Islands. This teleconnection implies that a full-latitude ridge will take shape from the Yukon Territory to California during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. 3) ECMWF and Parallel GFS model forecasts are strongly supportive of a fairly impressive Arctic intrusion east of the Rocky Mountains on November 27 - 28. Could there still be a storm along the Eastern Seaboard with the cold air? Maybe....but the 0z and 6z model runs backed away from that idea. Stay tuned...trust me, the first week of December is looking quite stormy with possible multiple gains/reduction in temperature in most of the lower 48 states.
