Some of my comments to others who compare Reagans 18 debt limit - TopicsExpress

Some of my comments to others who compare Reagans 18 debt limit raises to Obamas 7. (as if the number of limits is more important than their sizes....) @Ed: I did the research. Now you read it: All figures in Billions. Reagan raised the debt limit 18 times in 8 years: Total raise of 1,865. Average raise 104 Median Raise 72 Smallest: 0 (yes zero they just changed the date) Largest raise 448 (last one 9/29/87, which lasted 23 months until 8/7/89) Reagan through the first 5 years. 10 raises Total raise of 889, Average raise 89, Median raise 72. Smallest: 15, Largest: 251 Obama through first 5 years: 7 raises Total raise of 5,985 Billion. Average Raise: 855 Median: 789 Smallest: 400, which lasted 50 days. Largest: 1,900 which lasted 18 months. Reagan didnt demand that Congress write him a blank check. Reagans median debit limit raise wouldnt last Obama a month. Obama insists on a clean Debt Ceiling for a year at a time, then refuses to bargain and deal between debt ceiling raises. Aloof doesnt begin to describe this WH. ==================== Fine. Lets do it Reagans way. In Reagans first 5 years, he had 10 raises, about 2 per year. Average Debt Ceiling increase was 89 Billion. The largest 250 Billion. Of Obamas 7 debt limit rases in 5 years the SMALLEST increase was 290 Billion and lasted less than 2 months followed by a whopping 1,900 Billion Debt limit raise (more than 8 years of Reagan) that lasted 18 months to carry him through 2010 election. Yes. So lets go back to the way we did it with Reagan with Debt Limit increases 100 Billion at a time.
