Some of my earliest memories of music involve dancing around the kitchen to The Pogues with my parents. Shane MacGowan has always had a presence in my life. The Turkish Song Of The Damned had me terrified me as a kid, my granny telling us true stories about the banshee didnt help. I use to cry at the end of The Irish Rover cause I thought the dog died, and the poor aul dog was drowned.... When people talk about poets creating images and that, nobody captured my imagination like Shane did. All these years later, Ive given a tune of his a go. Its a little messy & Im not sure about the key yet, but Ive made the guitar visible in case anyone fancies giving it a go. The recording aint the best either. But sure, well get another down the road, Ill bash this out at the next The Harbour Bar gig...
