Some of the “highlights” from this morning’s Cabinet. Director of Education Chris Bradshaw “My children go to school in the Vale of Glamorgan. And his admission that I am not an educationalist I am an accountant. Cabinet Member praising Bradshaw for his “professional” input! See previous comment. Bradshaw says there has been no policy review of nursery education in Wales since 1999. Points out that the system is England is more clear cut and offers more childcare. No need for “sufficiency” assessment there as expectation is clearly laid out. (Difference between Lib Dem coalition provision and Labour provision in Wales.) Cabinet Member for Education Eudine Hanagan “I love the nursery.” (Anyone explained to her this is about education not ;loving; cute kids?) Paul Lucas, Legal Director assuring Cabinet they have coverd all the legal bits this time. A Cabinet Member raging at the Westminster Government blaming them for cuts to music services. He obviously hadn’t read announcement form Welsh Labour Education Minister that they are cutting the education budget by the back door. walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/welsh-councils-given-ultimatum-over-7912385 Leader Andrew Morgan accusing Mike Powell of indulging in ;self aggrandisement ‘ because he nipped out to do an interview with ITV. (More a case of having a good press officer I’d say ;-) ) Officers reading the answers to Cabinet Members’ questions from a pre printed sheet (as usual). And the classic example set by the Education Cabinet Member and two of her colleagues in turning up late for the meeting. Punctuality is important don’t you know.
