Some of the most compassionate AND angry posts Ive seen tonight come from my nurse friends and colleagues. Compassionate support for the Dallas nurse who contracted Ebola, and anger with the hospitals and government administration who are completely unmoved or concerned about nurses on the front line caring for patients (current and potential) with such a deadly disease. Theres probably been a 10 minute inservice on how to don a hazmat suit and a short PowerPoint explaining a additional assessment criteria for potential Ebola patients. Nurses do not choose who they may care for. We just do it, and I feel really terrible for the nurse in Dallas. I hope that my friends and family will see her side and understand that she probably did everything right, yet contracted the disease from lack of proper training. Shame on the media and the CDC for blaming her for her failure in protocol! Maybe President Obama and Mr. CDC should come be HER nurse!
