Some of us have been in frequent contact with classmates for more - TopicsExpress

Some of us have been in frequent contact with classmates for more than 60 years. Some of us have not had any conversations with classmates – even former close friends -- since graduation day. I thought it would be fun to start a “what have you done for the last half century?” conversation. The first catching-up comes from Arline (Forman) Karp, whose mother graduated from HH in 1932. In our yearbook, Arlines name is spelled as both “Arline” and “Arlene” – on the same page! Someone at Elm Tree really screwed up. Arline tells us: I lived on the Boulevard. I went to Sheridan, then Hillhouse and then Stone Business College. After Stone I worked as a secretary for the dean at the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. I loved the job -- especially having a month off with pay in the summer. At Sheridan, nasty science teacher Tom Dolan was going to give me an F because I was out for quite a while with mono. I got so upset that my mother talked to Principal Hyman. It all worked out and that man didnt flunk me. After 2-1/2 years at Yale I moved on to University Towers where I did a little bit of everything -- not only typing but even collecting rent. I then met my husband, Michael, and my parents moved to the north end of Bridgeport. I lived with them for about a month and got married at Bnai Torah. This Sunday, March 30, we will be married 45 years! I live in Trumbull and have two sons, Evan and Brian. Evan met his wife at Boston University. They have two beautiful and smart daughters. Hannah is named after my father Harry. She will be 13 in May and Lauren will be 12 in April. They live in Oregon. My younger son Brian just got married Jan. 3 in Negril, Jamaica. I couldnt make the wedding but he called and hooked up a video link so we saw the wedding live. I am no longer working. St. Maarten is our favorite island. I had back surgery this year so we havent gone anywhere. I enjoy reading, knitting and going out to lunch with my girlfriends. I have seen Marlene Caplan Wendt, Nancy Watrous McGuire and keep in touch with Carole Penna, Roxy Kaplan and Michelle Webber. I would love to see Roxy, Michelle and Laura Yanks Bench. I have also chatted with Margie Sampson. Almost saw her when she came up recently but it just didnt work out. We are looking to move to Florida next year. We would have gone this year, but Im just not well enough (four back surgeries, bad MRSA infection that went into my blood stream and a near death experience.) I am now on meds to help the pain and tingling and numbness in my hands. Its awful. Havent driven lately but I think I will on Sat. to go get my nails done. Then Sunday is our 45th anniversary.
