Some of us were talking about Urban training. For those that have not done this, it can be quit different and at the same time fun watching how the K9s work differently. In Santa Fe I would suggest two parks. Salvador Perez would be a good place for the beginners just enough distractions with city streets and small business’s. This would also be good to see how the K9s react and socialize with other people and K9s. Fort Marcy would be used for more advanced training. Major distractions, city streets, large number of people and downtown area. Both parks are lit so evening training is possible. When trailing in Urban setting I would suggest that a backup handler or assistant be with you all the time. To safe guard yourself, K9, and public. Those Urban Critters and be dangerous (darn humans) and car traffic. Abbey has done Urban Trailing in the past and had a good time. This was when my Grandson was here and we had Rookie Police K9 handlers with us. Abbey did her job but the Rookies didn’t understand her find. They would have been in a very bad situation if it were real. More on that later. By the way this was a 2 person trail that split up. She actually made first find and went back to where we thought was the split and made second find. I can thank Officer Anthony Ramon for this training and the Cadet Police K9 Officers.
