Some of you from the NHSPCA remember the challenges you may have had feeding with Cowboy Troy charging you and his feed tub. Thought youd get a chuckle as he and Barney took their evening chow tonight. Oh, he still gets a bit antsy and paces when you come up with the grain bucket, but hes learned to pace over there -> ... so hes not in the way or under foot. Its a nervous behavior that takes some over coming - If any of you have parents or grand parents who grew up during the Great Depression, you may be familiar with similar food issues. And sure, if - when - Troy finishes first, he tries to snag something from Barneys bowl, but all it takes to stop that is a light touch to re-direct him, or scratching his neck. Sometimes, he stops when I just say No, Troy. Wait lots of good changes in general behavior that will all be reflected in his demeanor and behaviors when I get him through a full re-do of ground school. Hes settling nicely and we hope to get some video up soon, but he displayed new fears - things bothered him that never had before. So, for what ever reason (and speculation is pointless, or worse) the best way to handle things when these things pop up is to simply treat it as if he were new & completely untrained and go all the way back to the beginning. THEN, when he re-establishes he knows the basics and does so calmly, then we move forward - and hopefully well get beyond the fear and have a calm horse that trusts again.
