Some of you have asked me how to draw the kind of hollow ring I show in a tutorial I shared recently. In the first image, from my notebook, we can see the formula. Tamanho in Portuguese means size. So, if you want a ring size 20 (Brazilian system), we have: 20 + 40 / 2 = X (the number 40 in the formula never varies) . So, X is 30 millimeters. To draw the curve, I use the ring gauge (photo). Ill use the ring number 20 in the ring gauge, of course. So, the straight line (X) represents half the diameter of the total hole of the ring. The left curve represents 1/4 of the diameter and the right one, 1/4. I also show my Freehand drawing, I made in 2004, when I measured the diameter of each ring of the ring gauge using a caliper. I have a list in my bench in which I show the relation between ring sizes, diameters and perimetrs: Anel nº means Ring #, from 1 to 33. Perímetro mm means perimeter mm and Diam. Int. mm means Internal diameter mm. We use a comma instead of point. This is the Brazilian ring sizes. I have tried to search this kind of formula in English, but so far, no results. I wish you have understand my explainations and good luck! Mauro
