Some of you have asked me why I dont go to RIS and dont advise - TopicsExpress

Some of you have asked me why I dont go to RIS and dont advise anyone to attend! So, here are the reasons. 1. While, I refuse to attend RIS, I dont deny that some of you have benefited from RIS so relax before getting fired on me out of your emotion. Please read my reasons.... 2. The most important reason why I dont attend is because RIS has departed from its actual objectives for which it was started 10 years ago. RIS was organized by a group of youths who wanted to revive the Islamic spirit of Muslims living in GTA and the other regions. However, over the time, the nasty intention of contemporary RIS organizers have been exposed. Their main objective now is to promote sectarianism more than anything. They have been promoting Sufistic interpretation of Islam and prioritizing the speakers who are followers of Sufi Tarikah. 3. They (the organizers) kinda deceived the larger Muslims community. At the beginning, RIS had a fair representation of scholars with different opinions. However, when RIS received popularity and acceptance among the ordinary people, they started marginalizing the scholars who do not agree with their agendas. They have marginalized most of the scholars who do not agree with Sufis. Out of 20 speakers of this year, only three of them are close to the Manhaj of Salaf yet they are very apologetic and hide their disagreement. I personally know some of the famous scholars of our time who have played an extremely important role in bringing RIS to the level where it is today but they have been marginalized due to this sectarian reasons. They expressed their grief and concerns and I am sure you will agree with them once you know what goes on behind the scene. 4. RIS has become more about a business than a Dawah event thesedays. Both, people behind the scene as well as the speakers are more interested in maximizing their profit from this event than giving Dawah. One of the tricks that they play is that they always pick a handful of the most popular speakers of the time (despite of their disagreements) so that they can bring their followers to the convention which will maximize their profit while giving people a perception that they have speakers from all sides. There are many more serious issues, but I am not going to discuss everything here since its already time to go to bed. But if you dont feel that I am telling you the true facts, please do a little research about the list of the speakers from 2003 to 2013 and ask the following questions. Is their any change in the list of the speakers? If so, who are the speakers? Are there some speakers who are permanent despite of their geographical and language barriers? What type of interpretation of Islam they follow? Are some scholars who have been changing by years? Who are the speakers that are not invited anymore? What type of Manhaj or interpretation of Islam they follow? Is there any reasons that you know or you can find that may be the reasons behind not bringing those speakers? How much revenues they approximately collect? Look at their marketing strategy? Is the price for convention ticket and other activities reasonable? Hints: Appreciation dinner is $100.
