Some of you have asked why i am no longer at San Jacinto College. Many rumors are out there. Here is the real story in a brief synopsis. Two years ago the Central Campus EMT program was moved under a new department. From that day forward the new administration of the new department, the new administration of the division and the new administration of the campus had the program in their cross hairs. Why? The new department chairman made it clear that he didnt care for EMS, and that he didnt care if it succeeded or not. He made it clear that his goal was to reduce the expenditure of the EMT program no matter what. From that moment on all of the full time Central faculty became targets for even the most minor of issues, most of which werent even true. In the mean time the North campus program had garnered support from administration on their campus. Remember, our campus was against us. So we had the perfect storm. One campus that was anti-EMS and one that was pro-EMS. Central was known for an excellent paramedic program. How to defeat that? First stop the paramedic classes from being taught by the professor who had built the program into an internationally recognized program. Second, discredit all of the full time faculty members within the San Jac system. And finally, stop offering advanced classes on Central and refuse to renew the contracts of all 5 full time faculty members on Central. Thats what happened. Period. We the former faculty of Central have been painted as vile, disgusting, unsuccessful and unacceptable by the college. But in my opinion the reality is it is those persons in the college administration who engineered this entire miscarriage who are unprofessional. I harbor no ill will to the North Campus faculty and their program. Their administration supported them, ours didnt. I stand on my record of 30 years as a paramedic teacher. I stand on the thousands of top notch paramedics I taught. I stand on the excellence my students exhibit every day. I stand on the gold standard they are. The college cannot take that away from me. Like the old Brer Rabbit story, they threw me in the briar patch. But thats exactly where I live. Like the legendary Phoenix, arising from the ashes makes us like a piece of hardened steel.
