Some of you know that I am involved with the issue of commercial air service here in Chico. Likewise most of you probably are aware that 2 December 2014 is United Express/SkyWests last day of service which will leave Chico without commercial air service for the first time in at least fifty years. The Airline Attraction & Feasibility Committee, a joint effort of the Chico Chamber of Commerce, the City of Chico, and the Airport Commission, created a Community Travel Survey to gauge air travel use and attitudes among residents of Chico and surrounding communities, as well as by those who live elsewhere but visit Chico from time to time. While not scientific, this survey is a first step in determining whether there is a sufficient level of interest to justify what will be a challenging process of attracting new commercial air service to our city. We are seeking to get as large a response as possible, so in addition to completing the survey yourself, please pass this on to your traveling friends and colleagues. They do not need to live in Chico but should be in the area that the Chico airport serves, which generally includes Butte and Glenn counties, or live elsewhere but make regular trips to this area. Respondents do not need to actually be current users of the Chico airport, but do need to be at least occasional air travelers, whether its from Chico, Sacramento, or other airports. It will take approximately ten minutes to finish the survey, and the planned response deadline is 2 December.
