Some of you may doubt the validity of this treatment by the VA hospital people, but when I was in Nursing School I had to do some of my clinicals in a local VA hospital and Im here to tell you, only half the truth is being told about the squalid conditions and treatment of these veterans. I saw it first hand, from roaches crawling all over a bandage supply cabinet (minor thing) to rats gnawing on stuff in the hallways. I saw how they treated my Uncle Bud who had served in TWO wars, and my heart just breaks every time I hear about the abuse. So what has changed since the big VA Scandal? Nothing... absolutely NOTHING. NOw that the media frenzy has died down and a sacrifical scape goat has been offered, it business back to usual. And our young veterans today have a right and reason to be afraid... to be very, very afraid... if they are ever in need of medical care they think they may have earned on the battlefields of foreign soils. :-(
