Some of you may know that I volunteer for a horse rescue organization. It is both heartbreaking and rewarding at the same time. HEARTBREAKING,,, to see all of the abuse and neglect that these beautiful animals that I love, suffer,,, to see the dull, empty look in their eyes when they first arrive,,, to see their skin stretched over skeletons, and ammonia burns from being locked for months in a stall, abandoned,,, to see the distrust from being so horribly abused.......... REWARDING,,, to see the shine come back to their coats and the light come back on in their eyes,,, to see them allow a human to touch them again,,, to see them able to finally run again,,, to work side-by-side with people that share the same passions of rescuing the innocents of this world,,, and rewarding to be quietly, softly brushing a grateful horse at the end of the day, and turn around to see a doe and her fawn standing 10 feet away watching me.
