Some of you may remember Dude, the little Shih Tzu that I posted - TopicsExpress

Some of you may remember Dude, the little Shih Tzu that I posted about a few times earlier this year. He came into PACC in January and hasnt been having the best year himself. This poor little guy has been the subject of a lot of confusion, communication that could have been much better on multiple levels, and, the product of an overloaded shelter system that lets pups like him fall through the cracks. I have been struggling since Friday evening trying to figure out how exactly to word this post. I cant figure out anything that sounds like what I was aiming for, so, here it is to the point. I got an email Friday afternoon telling me that Dude is still at PACC and asking if we would still consider taking him. As frustrated as I am to hear he is still there, this post is NOT to point fingers, cast blame, slam a system that already has enough challenges, etc. My intention of this post is only to find this poor pup a solution that results in him leaving the shelter - in days - not spending more months there. While we thought he had been taken out to a home again several months ago, turns out he was at the clinic the whole time. He has now spent nearly all of Jan-Dec at the clinic. I am going tomorrow afternoon to meet him again - only saw him his very first day there and have not had access to him at all since then. I am going to discuss his current health and prognosis with the clinic staff. He has very advanced valley fever - if he does not receive the medication, he crashes and cannot even walk or function. I am not experienced with this disease in its more advanced state. I know fluconazole is very expensive and I know we are a very small little rescue who is already carrying some big health burdens in some of our pups right now. But, I also know there is a sweet little guy who didnt deserve to sit there for nearly a year, and, he surely doesnt deserve to spend his Christmas there - whether he knows its Christmas or not. The day Dude came into PACC I met him. He had no energy to stand and greet me, he just laid in his kennel and barely lifted his head. But that tail wagged and he let me know he saw me and was sending the best greeting he could muster. I could see what a sweet spirit he had to go with his sweet face. If we pull him, our only option is to pray, and pray, that he can find a sponsor for his care costs - and - he will have to live with me (Robin) who also has Annabelle - thus limiting me from pulling any other dogs without new foster homes coming on board. I need to know more about Dudes prognosis and to make sure that we can provide all he needs - financially and love/support wise. Do any of our friends have experience caring for advanced valley fever cases and if so, can you tell me if you have had success kicking the disease into remission once it is that advanced? And do any of you have a more affordable source for the fluconazole? True fluconazole, not a black market imitation? New pics of Dude in the commentary below. I will update tomorrow after the meeting.
