Some of you may remember Sparkies Grill in Walkertown. My cousins and I worked there in high school. This lady was Claude Sparks wife Mrs. Eloise Martin Nichols, 92, formerly of Fairview Avenue, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday night, November 14, 2013, at Brighton Gardens of Raleigh. Mrs. Nichols was born August 11, 1921, in Yadkin County, the daughter of the late Isaac and Sally Bates Martin. Eloise lived in the Winston-Salem area the majority of her life. In 1994, she moved to Mount Airy, where she enjoyed being a part of the community until 2010. Her warmth and caring drew people to her wherever she was. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Claude F. and Jane Sparks of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Terry G. and Linda Sparks of Raleigh; a stepdaughter, Cathleen N. Hyatt of Rocky Point; two grandchildren, Ginger Duckett and Michael Branton; two great-granddaughters, Emily Duckett and Katie Duckett; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her husbands, Claude R. Sparks, Albert Greer, and John Thomas “J.T.” Nichols, Jr.; and two siblings, Olivia Bullard and Noah Marshall, both from the local area. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at 1:00 PM at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, with the Rev. Kevin Blevins officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all the individuals who provided home care in Mount Airy and the staff of Brighton Gardens of Raleigh for their loving care over the last several years. Also, the family would like to thank the team at Hospice of Wake County for the loving care they provided in Eloise’s last days. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
