Some of you may remember that my daughter, Robyn, gave me a deck of cards for Christmas last year. Each card has a memory of me on it written by some of my friends and relatives. I was to read one each week for the whole year. Many are very beautiful and mean so much to me. Thank you all! Then theres the one by my brother, David. I think its hilarious! He may have exaggerated some, but...yes...its basically true. I just had to share it! Back when we were kids, we would play a lot of board games. We didn’t have Internet and 700 channels on the TV back in the dark ages, so we entertained ourselves with low-tech board games. Well, Brenda always wanted to play Monopoly. The rest of us didn’t care for that game, but she would insist and would eventually get her way. None of us had anything against the game; We just didn’t like playing with Brenda. I’m not sure what kind of demon was contained in that cardboard game box, but it would take full control of my sister’s body. Removing the lid from the box would cause Brenda to transform for a teenage girl into a ruthless slum lord, greedy for rent, and out to crush all competition. She loved to buy the railroads, but her ultimate goal was ownership of Boardwalk and Park Place, the most expensive properties in the game. Typically, she would acquire one of these properties, but the second would be purchased by another player. Brenda would do anything to become owner of the other property, including bribery. She would dig out her hidden pile of cash, mortgage the rest of her properties to obtain even more capital, and promise favors unrelated to the game all in order to convince the owner of the wanted real estate that a sale to her would be a smart and lucrative move. Once the other property was part of her empire, Brenda would quickly erect hotels and bankrupt the other players with exorbitant rental fees. She always won, and I wouldn’t play Monopoly with her to this day. David
