Some people I encounter demand that God should do this before theyll believe in Him. Im reading through Nehemiah, and the people are remembering how God separated the waters of the Red Sea so the people could walk through dry land. And despite this historical testimony, people still scoff. Its not enough for them to believe. And I cant help but to think that these critics would think, It would be more impressive if God let them walk through the water and breathe! THAT would be a real miracle ... To which Im thinking in this hypothetical scenario, Yeah, like splitting waters hundreds of feet deep isnt impressive enough... And though this is just a hypothetical scenario going through my head, I wondered, well, what IF God did do that kind of miracle - where the people were able to walk through water without drowning? Given the attitude of the critics, theyd likely scoff at that instead. Never satisfied. The religious elite in Jesus day demanded miracles and signs, too, to prove that Jesus was really the Son of God. Even though Jesus already had done MANY things, they refused to believe. And Jesus pointed it out plainly, If you dont believe in Moses, why would you believe in Me? Why is it so impossible to believe God can do all these things in the past but cant or wont do them today? Im left with the questions: What do you expect of God? And how much does He have to do to prove Himself? More importantly, why does He have to submit to you?
