Some people ask the question, When is Jesus Christ coming back? - TopicsExpress

Some people ask the question, When is Jesus Christ coming back? Jesus told us not to speculate about a certain day, but He did leave some signs of the times for us to watch for. The Holy Spirit, who directed the writing of the Bible, puts tremendous emphasis on the fact that Christ is coming back to this earth again. There are five reasons why Christ has to return:(1) - Jesus must come back because of the promises of the Old Testament that have yet to be fulfilled. Scores of prophecies were fulfilled concerning His First Coming. But some prophecies still remain to be fulfilled. For example, the Scripture says, The government shall be upon his shoulder. ... Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. That Scripture has not been fulfilled. The government is not yet upon His shoulder. Jesus did not bring world peace in His First Coming, nor did He bring world justice. But He will bring it the second time, because the Scripture teaches that all prophecies will be fulfilled. In Micah the prophet says, They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. Consider the wars that are being fought now. Some day, however, people will make spears into pruninghooks, and nations will not lift up swords against nations. Why? Because the Prince of Peace is coming back--Hes going to be the world ruler.*(2) - Jesus Christ has to return because of His own statements. He is absolute truth. The Bible says, For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. This prophecy has yet to be fulfilled, but I believe it will be, because He said it.Jesus didnt lie to us. He said, I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. The Lord Jesus Himself is coming back! Thats how much He loves us. He gives us a new life here, but He also has a great plan for the future. For eternity! The Bible says that we are joint heirs with the Lord Jesus Christ and that we will spend eternity with Him. What is He doing now? He is preparing a home for us who love Him. It has been 2,000 years. What a home it must be!*(3) - Jesus Christ must come back because of the present position of Satan. The devil is the most powerful being in all the world, except for God Himself. The Bible says that the devil is called the god of this world. That means that hes the director of the false religions and philosophies of the world. Humanity is helpless before him. Mankind is unable to chain him. The churches cannot dethrone him. Legislation is impotent in dealing with the enormous power of evil in the world. But lets not forget one fact. There is One who is more powerful than Satan is.This One defeated Satan 2,000 years ago on the cross. Satan suffered his greatest defeat at the cross and in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. But the devil is still loose, still in charge of the evil that is in the world: All the injustices, all the wars, all the crime, all the wickedness, all the terrible things, in the world.Theres only one Person in heaven or on earth who can deal with the devil, and Hes coming back to throw Satan into the bottomless pit and ultimately into the lake of fire. Then we will be freed from this terrible pull of evil and the satanic power that has controlled the hearts of people for all these centuries. Thats why Christ has to come. Hes the only One who can deliver us. And the world is looking for a deliverer.*(4) - Jesus Christ must return because of the present chaos in the world--our world is racked with pain, suffering, hunger, war, murder, lust, greed, hate, fraud, corruption. Human government seems to be unsuccessful in dealing with these problems. The world is becoming more and more helpless and hopeless in this technological age. Many sociologists and scientists believe we have the capability to destroy ourselves. And we can.But the Scripture says, Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you. Jesus Christ will save us and set up His Kingdom of righteousness and glory and peace and justice. And what a world thats going to be! Will you be ready?*(5) - Jesus Christ must come back because of the dead in Christ--those people who died believing in God and trusting Him. When Jesus comes back, there will be a great resurrection and the believers will be raised from the dead, and the believers who are alive will be caught up in the air to be with the Lord. When will that take place? We dont know the exact day, but I believe that its drawing near. Its certainly 2,000 years nearer than when Jesus made the prediction. Jesus said that there would be signs for us to watch for:*Jesus said that there will be intellectual and mental confusion and disturbances throughout the world:Upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity... That word distress means tossed from all sides. And that word perplexity means no way out. We as a human race are going to reach a point where there will be no way out.Philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre wrote a play titled in which he stated that there is no exit from the human dilemma. No way out. But I tell you that there is a way out. And that Way is the Lord Jesus Christ.*Jesus said that there will be a collapse of morals just before He comes back: Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. ... As it was in the days of [Noah], so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.In both instances, in Lots day and in Noahs day, morals had collapsed, and today too moral fiber is collapsing all around us. The world is on an immoral binge, and Jesus said that just before He returns, this would be the condition of the human race.*Jesus said that there will be a falling away from faith before He returns. People who were believers will be falling away individually or collectively, and false prophets will deceive many: In the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. Many people have a false idea of God and of Christianity. They are not really disciples of Jesus Christ. They have become followers of a Counterfeit Christianity- a false gospel and many have unwittingly fallen away in the way that they live. The devil is still trying to make us doubt Gods Word. But I tell you, the Bible was inspired by God, from cover to cover. It is Gods holy Word.*Jesus indicated there would be an increase in lawlessness before He returns. He said that as lawlessness spreads, our love for one another will grow cold. Newspapers are filled with accounts like this. Terrorist activities are increasing in almost every country, and people dont know how to cope with it. Jesus said, Ye shall hear of wars and commotions, and that word carries with it the idea of rebellion against all authority. But Jesus said that people would be seeking peace. The Congresses and the Parliaments of the world are searching for peace. The leaders of the world go back and forth around the world seeking peace, trying to patch this little place here, and this place there. By the time they get back home, trouble has broken out somewhere else.*Jesus said that there will be a worldwide emphasis on evangelism, on the proclamation of the Gospel, before He comes back: This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. For the first time in history the Gospel can be heard all over the world--by radio, by television, by literature, by satellite, in every part of the world. What are we to do? How do we face this?*We are to purify ourselves. The Scripture says, Every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself. Do you have the hope of the coming again of the Lord Jesus Christ? Then you need to live it--a pure life, a godly life, a surrendered life, a consecrated life.*We are to wait with patience. Sometimes we wonder if Jesus really will come back. The Scripture says, Ye have need of patience, ... For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.(Hebrews 10:36-37) God has appointed a day. Its all set. Jesus will be back right on time--He wont be an hour early or an hour late.*We are to watch. That word means that we are to desire His coming. We are to be constantly thinking about His coming and to look for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of Jesus Christ.*We are to continue doing Gods work. He may come back today, His soon return should be our incentive to continue to do Gods work. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. *We are to be prepared. Are you prepared? The Bible says, The Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not. The Bible says, Noah ... moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house.(Hebrews 11:7) That word means terror. Yes! Some people are drawn by love into the Kingdom of God, and some people come in terror into the Kingdom of God. Some have a right to be terrified--for those people who do not know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, it means judgment, it means hell.We must come to Christ while we can.Let Us Pray Together--PRAY: God be merciful to me a sinner. Receive me now for Christs sake. Cleanse me from my sin by your precious blood, shed on the cross for me; lead me to be Baptized and fill me with your Holy Spirit. Teach me to pray each day; to read Your will for my life from your word, the Bible; and help me to worship and serve You in the fellowship of your church. I thank you Lord Jesus Christ. AMEN!
