Some people dont cook. I do. Not much, granted. I have some quick & dirty fast lunch recipes and stuff. But days like today, when I need to get grounded, I pull out my mums super porridge recipe and my dads flat bread recipe (have yet to try making this! tonight is the night!). For me, food is family - food is memory - food self-prepared tastes better. Oh, I love restaurants and treats, but there is a warmth of sorts to cooking, a feeling of self-care. Ive discovered this during my first year of uni, and never forgotten. I cook simple stuff. Bake sometimes. Enjoy cooking for people I love, enjoy messing with classics, throwing a bit creativity in. Its not something Id want to do every day, three times a day... but I enjoy it when I have the chance. My grandma used to make an apple pie that nobody can get right. Taste of my childhood, but no one can make it anymore. Maybe one day Ill take up the challenge. My other grandma loves spoiling us. Its hard, remembering her peach cheesecake while on no sugar diet. But when I think food, I think love. And I need that sort of feeding, too.
