Some people have a very hard time with the following concept: If a person says that they committed acts A, B, and C because of their religion, and they cite countless religious passages to support their actions then we can safely assume that rightly or wrongly the person in question was motivated by their religion. On the other hand, if a person commits some acts A, B, and C without ever referencing his/her religion but happens to be a member of religion X then we can safely assume that the acts were not driven by his/her religion. Its really very simple. Concrete example if anyone is still confused: Person X says the following: I will not work on the Sabbath, eat pork or shrimps, and will fast on Yom Kippur. All of these actions are driven by my deep adherence to my Jewish faith, as stipulated in the following passages of my Holy book. What drove this person to engage in these acts? His Jewish faith! Now if the same person X were to cheat on his taxes, support Manchester United, or travel to Sicily, these actions and preferences are not rooted in his Jewish faith. Perhaps this might help some folks navigate through some of the global realities that we are privy to on a daily basis.
