Some people have asked about Negro, who went to live in Ontario in April. As a matter of fact, Mom heard from Negros mom a couple of weeks ago. He is adjusting to life as a Canadian very well. He is especially close to one of his Lab brothers. They are best buds. He lives by big fields and a pond with lots of open space to run and explore. There is one bit of bad news. He went to the vet to check out some spots on his skin. They just turned out to be mosquito bites. However, tests were done and it was determined that Negro had both heartworm and ehrlichia. These are residual illnesses from when he was a beach dog down in Mexico. He had been treated for Lyme disease while still in Mexico, but the other diseases were not detected. The ehrlichia is a tick born disease, the same as Lyme. Negro was already being treated and they were going to get a status soon from the vet to know what further treatment was necessary. Like all cases of heartworm treatment, keeping the patient quiet and calm is difficult. We hope that Negro is responding to treatment and will be fine. His mom said that even when he has been confined for treatment and not feeling well, he is still the same sweet loving boy.
