Some people have built a ministry around a gift that every spirit-filled believer is able to operate in. The gift of prophecy should be a desire, according to Paul, of every believers heart. Every believer should share words amongst one another that would strengthen, encourage and comfort the Body of Christ. We should not be running after those who call themselves prophets for a word from God, especially when God can and does speak directly to those who are willing to listen to Him. The gift, in my opinion is to encourage us to continue pressing into Him and not fortune telling as we see in the Church today. 1 Cor 14:1-3 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. I have asked the questions, where are those who can share the secrets of Gods heart, those who are His mouthpieces who are able to speak as God directs and change is effected because of the word they carry in their hearts? A true prophet will always point people to Jesus and not draw any attention, WHATSOEVER to themselves and when they speak, they will always bring correction and give direction to the BODY as a whole. Of course a prophet can also bring words that will strengthen, encourage and comfort those they are sent to, however, it is always for the glory of God. Col 3:1-4 1Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. This friend, is where our strength, encouragement and comfort lies and not in the earthly things many pursue and prophecy...
